Bhopal: The porters working at Bhopal and Habibganj Railway stations will start an indefinite strike from Monday. The strike is being organised under the banner of West Central Railway Contract Union. The striking porters will stop work from 11:00 am on Monday.
The porters are demanding that a rest house be made in the station premises for them. They are also demanding an increase in wages, uniforms suitable to the weather, facility to get family members treated at the Railway Hospital and changing the name ‘Coolie’ to ‘Rail Yatri Sewak’
Rajesh Tiwari, the general secretary of the union, said that the Railway administration has not accepted their demands. The porters have been given a small room instead of a rest house which they were demanding. He also said that the government is not sympathetic towards their other demands.
The porters had earlier held a day long strike on June 13 for the same demands. DRM Ghanshyam Singh said that a proposal containing all the demands made by the porters has been send to the headquarter.
