HISAR: Farmers from across the state have decided to join hands against the land acquisition. Farmers` action committee has planned a joint meeting on June 30, which is likely to be attended by those from Gorakhpur of Fatehabad district, Agroha of Hisar and Panjokhra of Ambala district.
Farmers of Agroha are on a hunger strike for the past 25 days and those of Gorakhpur are protesting for the past 315 days. Farmer leader Krishan Swaroop said, ” Haryana government wants the fertile land for various projects. Barren areas should be considered. It wanted to acquire 1,860 acres at Panjokhra for industries in Ambala district, 1,313 acres at Gorakhpur for the nuclear power plant project and 210 acres at Agroha for residential colonies of Haryana Urban Development Authority ( HUDA).”
A kisan march would be carried out on June 30 from Agroha to Hisar. Affected farmers of Agroha would express solidarity with those from Gorakhpur on June 27 and would sit on a dharna with them at Fatehabad.
President of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti of Gorakhpur Hans Raj Siwach said, “Under no circumstances would we allow the government to acquire the fertile land.”
