OVERCROWDING TRIGGERS “TROLLEY STRIKE” IN BERGAMO PRISON

(AGI) Bergamo – The “trolley strike” (the refusal of food) started in the Bergamo prison, too, as a protest against overcrowding of Italian prisons. There is not a unanimous adhesion, however. The Bergamo prison has been overcrowded for over 10 years: it can house 180 prisoners (up to 220 in case of necessity), but it usually houses about 500 people. At the moment there are between 550-560 inmates. . .
