Striking students suspended

THE management of San Giovan Secondary School in Kanungu district has suspended 28 students after they went on rampage and destroyed school property last week.

The headmaster, Nazarious Byaruhanga, told journalists that the students went on strike after the administration searched their dormitories on Sunday and confiscated items that they were not allowed to carry to school. The items included cameras, radios and clothes.

“The students defied school orders and when we learnt about it, we mounted a search and confiscated illegal items,” Byaruhanga said.

However, the students, whose items were confiscated reportedly instigated other students and organised a strike. Byaruhanga said the suspended students were those whose property was confiscated.
