Sasaram, june 18 (PTI) On a day-long fast to protest the death of a cellmate at the divisional jail in this headquarters town of Bihar”s Rohtas district, several prisoners today refused to go for production before their respective courts.
The fast by 675 prisoners was in protest against the death of undertrial Ashok Kumar Singh (38) from hepatitis at the Sadar Hospital last night, where he was shifted from the jail hospital earlier, official sources said.
Over 50 inmates also refused to board the prison van for production before courts in connection with the respective cases pending against them, sources said.
When contacted, jail Superintendent Avinash Kumar said the circumstances leading to Singh”s death were being probed.
“We are trying to placate the angry prisoners,” Kumar added.
