Workers of a factory blocked a highway for half an hour and damaged at least seven vehicles in Sadar upazila of Gazipur protesting closure of the factory on Saturday.
Police said workers of Southern Sweater Factory at Board Bazar became violent at about 8:00am seeing the indefinite closure notice at the gate of the factory on the day.
The agitated workers then blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway and damaged at least seven vehicles.
Later, the workers withdrew their blockade with the intervention of police.
Local sources said a conflict arose between the authorities and the workers on Thursday as the workers demanded their wage hike.
The authorities, later, paid one month’s arrear to the workers and assured them of increased wage later.
