3 Face Charges in Downtown Mob Attack

Three teenagers face charges Wednesday morning in connection with the latest downtown mob robbery, and police are looking for more suspects.

Two 18 year olds and a 16 year old were arrested after a group of 15 youths reportedly beat and robbed two people around 8:30 p.m. at Chicago Avenue and North Wabash Avenue, News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

Police have filed for charges, but the charges still need to be reviewed by the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Witnesses told NBC Chicago the mob of teens attacked two young men, beating them and stealing their money. The group first tried to attack the two victims on Michigan Avenue, the witness said, then chased them to Chicago and Wabash, where one of the victims tripped and fell.

“When we saw the first punch thrown at the kid, me and my friends took off our uniforms and just darted over there trying to help,” said witness Cory Bynum. “We get there, [the victim was] coughing up blood, his face is like really bloody and he’s all, ‘Oh, they just stole $350 from me.’ “
