Villagers set two police vehicles afire after youth”s death

Ambala, Jun 2 (PTI) Residents of a village near here went on a rampage today, following the death of a youth allegedly due to police negligence, setting afire two police vehicles and blocking traffic on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway. The agitated crowd from Gadholi village set on fire two police vehicles near Naraingarh, around 25 km from here, to protest the death of a youth, police said, adding that they blocked the SadhoraNaraingarh road following which several vehicles got stranded on both sides. The villagers were protesting the death of Neeraj Sharma, who died as his speeding motorcycle collided with a mini-truck after he was asked to stop by the police at a check point.Pillion rider Mohit got serious injuries and was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. The protesters claimed that the accident occurred due to police negligence as they suddenly asked Sharma to stop his speeding bike. They also alleged that it was the habit of the police to harass two-wheeler drivers on the pretext of checking their helmets and documents. The crowed demanded strict action against the police personnel responsible for this incident. Police force has been deployed in the area to deal with any adverse situation, the police said.
