Army weapon found in Bern police shooting

A weapon found at the scene where a Bern police officer was shot dead earlier this week in the Emmental region, was an army-issue pistol, cantonal police said.

Police have yet to confirm whether the pistol was the gun used to kill the officer.

Another policeman was injured in the shooting incident.

The pistol was reportedly found outside of the home where the two officers were serving an eviction notice.

When no one answered a knock at the door, police entered and were shot by a resident in the home.

Yesterday, some 200 Bern police officers observed a moment of silence for the policeman who died.
