Mauritanian secondary school teachers observe 3-day general strike

Nouakchott, Mauritania – Mauritania’s National Union of Secondary Education (SNES) is embarking on a three-day general strike from Sunday, sources close to the union told PANA. The strike is the second of its kind in less than 15 days. SNES is demanding wage increase, incentive bonus, housing allowance and the generalization of the insolated post allowance. In a statement, the union reiterated its condemnation of the ‘refusal’ of the government to open negotiations, stressing its determination to exercise its legitimate right to strike until the their demands are met.
