Farmers protest over land across the fence, caned by police

Ludhiana: Protesting over the ownership of more than 1,300 acres of land across the fence near Dona Talumel chowki of Border Security Force in Ferozepur, a large number of farmers were caned by the police on Wednesday. A few farmers sustained injuries in the incident. According to information, the protesters claimed that the land across the fence was in their name but the revenue department transferred it to landlords over the years. Kikar Singh, one of the farmers, said: “Farming is being done by big landlords now and many of us don’t even get two square meals. Our struggle will continue, but the administration is not supporting us at all.” The farmers have been protesting against this issue, under the banner of Zamin Bachao Sangrash Committee, for the last one year.
