A prison guard was injured on Sunday while trying to quell a riot that erupted in a Düzce prison after a convict committed suicide.
A convict imprisoned in a Düzce B-type prison hung himself in his cell early on Sunday, the Anatolia news agency reported. Other convicts then set the prison cell on fire. The fire was quickly put out, but a prison guard suffered a broken arm after a clash erupted between prison guards and inmates. He was sent to Atatürk State Hospital for treatment.
Düzce Public Prosecutor Ramazan Solmaz told reporters that the incidents have been brought under control and that more detailed information will be shared with the public at a later date.
