Port Elizabeth – Service delivery protesters threw stones at the police and blocked the Uitenhage Road with burning tyres in Algoa Park outside Port Elizabeth on Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Johan Rheeder said the protest started around 06:00.
“A small group of people, who are protesting for better services in their community, blocked the road with burning tyres and began throwing stones,” Rheeder said.
“The police arrived at the scene and the situation calmed. There was no shooting or any violence.”
Rheeder said the protest was one of several held in Algoa Park in the past year.
