Gorakhpur: Sixteen labourers were injured in firing after a clash between suspended workers of a factory and security guards of the company here, police said on Wednesday.
20 people from both sides have been arrested and police is probing the incident.
The clash took place yesterday when 18 workers suspended by the management of Ankur Thread factory on grounds of indiscipline and dereliction of duty were holding a protest demanding their reinstatement.
When they tried to enter the factory, the security guards stopped them leading to the clash, police said.
While the workers alleged that the factory management fired at them when they were holding the protest, the factory owner Ashok Jalan claimed that the workers opened fire in order to implicate the management.
Both sides have registered FIRs against each other in Chiluataal Police Station.
Later, the workers of the factory held a dharna at the divisional commissioner’s office demanding action against the mill owners.
Commissioner K Ravindra Nayak has assured them of a fair inquiry into the incident.
