Nine Puerto Rican Cops Hurt in Incident at Housing Project

SAN JUAN – Nine Puerto Rican police were injured while making an arrest at a public housing project in the northern town of Arecibo, the department said Friday.

Residents of the Ramon Marin Sola project reacted angrily when the officers tried to make an arrest in the complex’s recreation area, pelting the cops with stones and bottles.

Shots were also fired at the officers, the Puerto Rico police said in a statement.

Four people were ultimately taken into custody and the injured officers were taken to an Arecibo-area hospital, according to the statement, which said several police vehicles were damaged in the incident.
