Stoke’s Croft riot film showing in Bristol is blocked by police

POLICE moved dozens of people on from Mina Park in St Werburgh’s as they tried to watch an outdoor screening of film from last week’s Cheltenham Road riot.

Officers dispersed the group at 6.30pm and reportedly confiscated a screen to prevent what they said was an “unlicensed event” from taking place.

Chief Inspector John Holt said: “This was not about censorship. We believed there was a very real risk to the local community if the screening were to go ahead in a public park.”

It came as a protest over Tesco in Cheltenham Road that was planned for tonight was called off over fears that it could get out of hand.
