Student shot dead in school strike

One Student has been shot dead and several others sustained injuries in a school strike.

A senior three student of Bubare secondary school in Kabale district,Judith Ntegyereize, was shot dead as the Police tried to disperse striking students.

The sixteen-year old was hit by stray bullet at the school gate as she fled the violence killing her instantly.

According to the head teacher, Jimmy Twinomugisha, the strike started yesterday morning when the school administration barred boys from using the same rooms with girls for revision during preps.

Twinomugisha explained that the pronouncement sparked off the strike.
Police was called to quell down the strike after the rowdy students started destroying property.

The school administration said the deceased was not part of the confusion as she had just arrived at the school but was walking away through the gate after she was caught up in the chaos.

Godfrey Biryomumaisho, the officer in charge of Kabale police station, regretted the incident adding that he had ordered his officers not use live bullets.
Kabale RDC, Cox Nyakairu condemned the shooting.

The school has been closed and an emergency board meeting has been called to discuss the situation.
