Health personnel on strike in Mauritania

Nouakchott, Mauritania – Health personnel under the aegis of the coalition of health care unions in Mauritania began a general strike Thursday to push for better pay and improvement in healthcare. The workers are demanding that the risk allowance, which is exclusively paid to specialists, be extended to all health care personnel. The strike is widely successful in several health facilities, especially at the Nouakchott Hospital Centre (NHC) and the Hospital de l’Amitié.

The coalition consists of specialists, doctors, technicians, midwives, nurses and members of subordinate bodies.
