Mob turns violent as realtors shoot woman

PATNA: Residents of Musahar Toli on Tuesday blocked the Bailey Road, placed burning tyres and torched six vehicles to protest the death of a local woman in an incident of firing by some associates of a builder.

Two more persons, including a woman, sustained bullet injuries in the shooting that took place at Musahar Toli under the Airport police station on Tuesday morning.

Locals alleged the associates of the builder were forcibly constructing a boundary wall over a piece of land, which was being used as a graveyard for past several years. They said when they opposed the construction of the boundary wall, the builder’s men opened fire, injuring three persons Malia Devi, Buti Devi and Ramji Manjhi.

Agitated locals set ablaze two motorcycles and four cars. The builder’s associates had by then fled the spot. The locals then blocked the Bailey Road at Jagdeo Path. They raised slogans against the state government and the police administration.

Later, City SP Shivdeep Lande and ASP (Sachivalaya) Satya Veer Singh reached the place. The mob alleged the builder’s men opened fire in the presence of policemen. The policemen later chased away the mob.

Movement of vehicles was restored later. The injured were admitted to the PMCH, where Buti Devi succumbed to her injuries in the evening.

When the news of her death reached Musahar Toli, the residents turned violent and blocked the Bailey Road again. They also placed burning tyres at different points. Anti-riot vehicle Vajra was rushed to the spot to meet any eventuality.

ASP (Sachivalaya) and City SP also tried to pacify the mob, which demanded the presence of chief minister Nitish Kumar on the spot, immediate arrest of those involved in firing and adequate compensation to the deceased’s family.
