8 DEAD AND 17 INJURED IN SYRIAN PRISON REVOLT

(AGI) Damascus – Quoting local police forces, the Sana news agency has reported that eight people have died and 17 injured in a prison revolt in the coastal town of Latakia, 348 kilometers north west of Damascus. “Twenty-five prisoners were hospitalized, eight died due to smoke inhalation and serious burns,” said chief of police, Kamel Fteih, specifying that the riot broke out following a fire in the prison started by a detainee who set fire to his mattress and bed-linen in his cell.
