Oil spill: Auchi farmers protest non-payment of compensation

Farmers in Auchi, Estako West Local Government Area of Edo state recently stormed the Auchi flow station of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in demonstration against  the non-payment of compensation for oil spill on their farmland.

The farmers, who took the protest to the flow station in their hundreds, blocked all entry points to the station, locking out the station superintendent, Mr. Duke Ijirigho, in the process.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the farmers locked all the entrance to the station.

The farmers, who came chanting war songs, threatened to shut down the flow station if their compensation was not paid with immediate effect.

The spokesperson to the farmers, Mr. Audu Momodu, said their patience had not only been toyed with  but also tasked beyond limits, just as he warned that they should not be held responsible for any consequence resulting from their action in relation to the non-payment of compensation for the degradation of  their farmland.
