Release of factory workers demanded

PESHAWAR: The activists of the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign staged a protest here Thursday against management of the Lucky Cement Factory. The protesters, led by the body’s provincial president Comrade Amir Hashmi, were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the factory management.

The protesters condemned the police torture on the workers and demanded immediate release of the arrested workers and withdrawal of cases registered against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Hashmi said the arrest and sacking of the workers and closure of the factory was against democratic norms and human rights. He said the security guards of the factory were forced to perform 24 hours duty, saying that no civilised society could approve of such inhuman acts.
