Factory workers close down plant

LAKKI MARWAT: Some workers of the Lucky Cement Factory went on strike on Saturday to seek acceptance of their demands.

However, Deputy General Manager of the factory, Anwar Tariq said that 15 to 20 outsiders forced their entry into the factory and with the help of workers shut the power plant, thus closing the cement production plants and paralysing the entire system of the factory.

“The outsiders also beat and tortured the security official of the factory”, he added, saying that no one was on strike in the factory. He said the employees and labourers were unable to work as the outsiders managed to close the plants by suspending the power facility.

Sources said that the factory management’s recent decision regarding 24-hour duty for the security staff irked the workers who decided to go on strike.

Led by labour leader Muhammad Ismail, the workers asked the management to reinstate the sacked employees and withdraw cases against labour leaders.

The sources said the local administration and police officials along with heavy contingent of law-enforcement agencies rushed to the factory to avert any clash between the workers and management.
