Police today arrested two senior Maoist leaders including a woman squad member against whom several cases including a murder case are pending in Bankura district.
According to a senior police official, Rajesh Murmu alias Buru was picked up from Koima village in Sarenga in Bankura district, while Saraswati Mandi was arrested early in the morning from Chirudi village in Bagmundu police station area in Purulia. The duo were produced in the Bankura court today and were remanded in seven days of police custody.
Significantly, Buru (21), a resident of Barigeria village in Goaltore, is believed to be a close associate of Bikash, the state committee member of the CPI-Maoist. After Sidhu Soren, chief of the Goaltore squad, was killed in an encounter, Buru was assigned to run the squad. Buru had a considerable influence in the Goaltore and Sarenga areas on the Bankura-West Midnapore border.
Buru faces several non-bailable cases including a murder case pending in Bankura and West Midnapore. Police said Buru was involved in a murder in Bagabandh camp in Sarenga in July 2010. According to police, Saraswati (22), a resident of Harambara village in Barikul police station area, is a senior member of Maoist leader Arjun’s squad and was involved in a firing incident in Bharikul police station area.
