Bereaved villagers rallied in Kandahar today, accusing the police of killing five of their relatives overnight.
Around a hundred people who had travelled from Pashmol village in Zhari district gathered outside the house of the provincial governor in the city and demanded compensation from the US-backed government.
They carried three bodies of men they said were slain by police in Pashmol on Wednesday night.
The villagers said two women were also killed by the police.
Local government officials confirmed that an incident had taken place in Pashmol but said it was a police operation targeting known insurgents and that the men who were killed had fired on the officers.
