City workers protest cutbacks in Zurich

Public service workers are staging a demonstration against cutbacks to city employees in the center of Zurich this evening, with the exception of the Zurich city police.

The city’s Police Association (PBV) say that as a group of political activists, known in German as the Revolutionäre Aufbau Schweiz, are taking part, they cannot guarantee that the demo will be peaceful and therefore cannot attend.

The revolutionary activists said in a statement that political organisation shouldn’t stop workers standing up for their own interests.

The demonstration aims to highlight what they are calling unneccessary cuts to public services in the city which will affect public employees.
