Another five fixed route taxi drivers who went on strike today were arrested by police on Tuesday in Tbilisi. They were charged with insubordination to law enforcement bodies.
As one of the leaders of the Conservative Party, Lasha Chkhartishvili, told Trend, the Tbilisi City Court has applied seven-day administrative arrest for these individuals.
According to him, the arrest of the drivers is the government’s attempt to intimidate and force them to refuse from holding a strike.
Chkhartishvili said so far 15 drivers have been arrested. Ten were sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest and five to seven days of arrest.
