Prisoners in cell barricade protest

SIX prisoners have barricaded themselves into a prison cell at a local young offenders institute.

Several North Yorkshire Police cars were sent to the prison on East Road, Northallerton, at 2.10pm on Wednesday, February 23.

They were called back before reaching the North Yorkshire prison, which houses all male inmates, and it is believed prison staff were dealing with the issue.

A Prison Service spokesman said: “At 2.10pm six prisoners barricaded themselves into a cell at HM Prison Northallerton. The incident is ongoing.”

No-one from Northallerton Prison would comment on the incident.
