Settlement reached in SW Colo train threat lawsuit

DENVER (AP) – An ex-convict awakened, taken off an Amtrak train and accused of making threats in La Junta last January has reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit alleging his civil rights were violated.

Ojore Lutalo sought at least $5,200 in direct and punitive damages in a lawsuit filed in September against the city, its chief of police and the arresting officers.

Details of the settlement reached Wednesday were not released.

A Denver attorney representing the city did not immediately return a message left Saturday.

Lutalo is a self-described anarchist who spent 28 years in a New Jersey prison for robbery and weapons offenses.

He says he traveled to California by train last January to avoid heightened security at airports following the failed underwear bomb plot in December 2009.
