Greek anarchist trial accused in hunger strike

Four of 13 suspected Greek anarchists charged with belonging to a terrorist group went on hunger strike yesterday after a court went ahead with their trial despite a boycott, a lawyer said. The four are among six alleged members of the Conspiracy of Fire Nuclei being held in prison during the trial. Three are on bail and four are being tried in their absence. “The four accused sent a joint letter to the president of the court saying they were starting a hunger strike in protest against the court’s refusal to meet their demands,” defence lawyer Yannis Rahiotis said. The hearings, already adjourned three times because of protests, reopened Thursday.
