Anganwadi workers stage protest

Jan 29
DAVANAGERE: Davanagere police arrested over 350 Anganwadi workers and assistants here on Friday for interrupting the traffic by blocking PB Road, only to be released late in the evening.

Hundreds of women workers from several Anganwadi centres of the district took out a protest here, urging the government to fulfil their long-pending demands like regularizing their jobs, fixing pension and hiking salaries.

The traffic on PB Road was disrupted when the agitators formed a human chain near Gandhi Circle for over 20 minutes.

Anganwadi centres in the district did not work for the day. The rally was led by M B Sharadamma, Vanajakshi, Neelambika, Puttalaxmi, Kamalamma, Mallamma and State Anganwadi president H K Ramachandrappa.
