2 cases over ACI factory clash, death

Narayanganj, Jan 24 (bdnews24.com)—Two cases have been field over the death of a worker and a clash with police in Narayanganj.

The deadly clash took place between the agitating workers of ACI Pharmaceuticals Limited factory at Shiddhirganj and law enforcers around 11am on Sunday.

They were demonstrating for pay hike and regularisation of their jobs.

Witnesses said at least 15 people were injured when the law enforcers fired shots, 30-40 teargas shells and over 100 rubber bullets on the demonstrators to disperse them.

One Enamul Haque died at Narayanganj Hospital after he was admitted to it with critical injuries.

Shiddhirganj Police Station sub-inspector Zakir Hossain filed a case against 300-400 unnamed people early on Monday in connection with the death.

He filed another case against 30 workers for vandalism and attack on police.

However, neither of the family of the deceased nor the factory authorities filed any case.

So far, no one was arrested in the cases.

Confirming filing of the cases, Shiddhirganj police chief S M Badrul Alam told reporters that the factory was declared shut on Sunday night.

Police were deployed at the factory.

After autopsy, Enamul’s body was sent to his village home in Rangpur, the police officer added.
