AMMONNEWS – Amal Ghabayen – An employee at Al al Bayt University on Sunday threatened to set himself and his children ablaze in front of the university’s administration building in protest o the “meager” raise he will receive and because the university refused to recognize equivalency of his university degree.
The employee, who was hired on a high school diploma, was angered at the JD 10 raise he will receive from the parallel program revenues at the time that the university administration refused to recognize equivalency of his Bachelor’s degree he earned from a different university.
The man left the campus and brought his children, threatening to set himself and his children ablaze, an informed source at Al al Bayt University told Ammon News, wishing not to disclose his name.
Director of campus security negotiated with the employee in an attempt to dissuade him from burning himself and his children.
The source added that the university refused to recognize equivalency of his university degree “because the standards and requirements do not apply to him.”
The source also noted that the employee was suffering from a special humanitarian case, upon which he was hired.
President of the Al al Bayt University in eastern Jordan, Dr. Nabil Shawagfeh, refused to comment on the incident.
