21 January 2011

Asaba — Over 100 women including raped and pregnant girls from Ayakoromo community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State took to the streets of Asaba to the Government House yesterday, protesting against the military personnel over alleged inhuman treatment meted out on them.

The protesting women and their children of primary school age accused the soldiers that allegedly carried out the action, carrying placards with inscriptions: ” I was forcefully raged and deflowered as a kid by Nigerian soldiers”, Federal Government come and test us for HIV/AIDS and STDS having been raped by soldiers”, “You killed our parents and brothers, kill us”, Federal Government give as justice before you re-build out houses”, “JTF apologize to Ayakoromo people and the community”, etc.

They said about 16 gun boats and two jets were used by the soldiers to run the community down when they (the soldiers) were searching for a militant leader, John Togo.

They also claimed that the soldiers broke the community vault and stole about N500m.
