ROURKELA: Hundreds of people on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of Bisra police station and staged a blockade on the Bisra-Jareikela road demanding release of six persons, whom police claimed to be Maoists.

On Tuesday, Rourkela police arrested six persons alleging that they were involved in the Bondamunda A cabin blast incident, paralyzing train services on the Mumbai-Howrah and Rourkela-Hatia routes. Those arrested are Dasarath Ekka (25), Santosh Ekka (30), Fabianus Ekka (30), Md. Mister (23), Md. Aftab (25) and Seema alias Tapaswini.

SP (Rourkela) Diptesh Pattnaik had told the media that those arrested are Maoists sympathizers and had assisted the Maoist team that had blown up the cabin.

On Wednesday, people of Bisra, Jharbeda and Chirubeda areas staged the agitations. The road blockade was vacated around 5.30 p.m. following police intervention. “Police instead of arresting the rebels, are only nabbing villagers, who is either earning their livelihood by working as a daily labourers,” said Suleman Ekka, a villager of Jharbeda.
