Peruvian Rebel Ambush Leaves Three Dead in Jungle, RPP Reports

Peruvian rebels ambushed a police patrol in the southeastern Amazon jungle, killing three policemen, Radioprogramas reported.

Today’s attack by suspected members of the Maoist Shining Path guerrilla group came as the police were accompanying a judge to investigate a separate murder in the La Convencion region, the Lima-based radio station said.

A 40-member police contingent has been sent to the area, national police director Gen. Raul Becerra told Radioprogramas.
