GAYA: Chandra Deo Paswan, a sub-zonal commander of CPI(Maoist), and two other Maoists were arrested at a place under the Barachatti police station of the district on Tuesday. One of the nabbed Maoist has been identified as Satya Dev Yadav, said to be an expert in the art of landmine laying. According to police sources, Satyadeo has been instrumental in laying several landmines in Bihar and Jharkhand. The Maoists of late have been relying more on landmines to ambush police parties and create terror.
Confirming the arrests, Sherghati SDPO Mahindra Prasad said three more persons have been detained for their suspected involvement in extremist activities in the district. The background of the detained men was being verified, said the SDPO. The arrested Maoists were involved in several incidents of Naxal violence and the police is hopeful of getting vital information from them.
One cylinder bomb and Maoist literature was also recovered from the possession of the arrested Maoists, said Sherghati SDPO. The Maoists extensively used cylinder bomb in their operations during the recent assembly elections and no less than eight persons, seven of them children, were killed as a cylinder bomb accidentally went off at a place under the Deo police station area of Aurangabad district on November 21 morning.
