Authorities let seven Keratea residents go after landfill clash

Seven people arrested last Thursday following violent clashes with police that broke out during a demonstration against the construction of a landfill in Keratea, southeast of the capital, were released yesterday after defending themselves before an investigating magistrate. The seven, four of whom are siblings, all denied criminal charges of causing an explosion and possession of explosives. There were more scuffles over the weekend as residents continued their protest against the government’s plans to build a landfill in the area. Another two people were arrested on Saturday night.
