Mysterious murder: Demo held against Risala police

KARACHI: Angry people staged a protest demonstration in front of Risala police station with the body of Imran son of Abdul Rahim who was found dead in mysterious condition in the police station. Taking the notice of the protest, SP Saddar Irshad Sehar suspended Station House Officer (SHO) Risala police station Tariq Imran, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Khan and a constable Abdul Qadir, and ordered an inquiry into the incident in the supervision of DSP Garden Sahib Khan. According to details, the hanged body of a 22-year old Imran son of Abdul Rahim was found at the toilet of Risala police station. The police claimed that it was a suicide case. In this regard, an angry mob carrying the body held a protest demonstration against the police and shouted slogans against them. The protesters claimed that it was not a suicide case but a murder in which Risala police officials were involved. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused in the case. The angry mob also damaged the police station. Later, a large number of police and rangers personnel reached there and held negotiation with the victim family after which the protesters dispersed peacefully. Risala police claimed the deceased was a street criminal and caught by them on 15 December red-handed while snatching a mobile phone from Humayun with his accomplice. The police rushed to the scene and arrested him while his accomplice managed to flee. DSP Ghulam Hussain said that the bandit was a drug addict and his death was a suicide case. SP Saddar Irshad Sehar said that police had assured the victim family members that justice would be provided to them at all costs, while three policemen had been suspended and an inquiry in the supervision of a DSP Garden Sahib Shah started, adding the final chemical report was being awaited. staff report
