At least 78 Maoists were killed and 1,433 arrested in the last 10 years, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said here today.
Patnaik replying to a written question in the Assembly said, “78 Maoists have died in police action in the state during the period from 2001 to 2010 (till November 15),” he said.
The chief minister, who is also the home minister, said that 15 of the state’s 30 revenue districts have been accepted as Maoist-affected under the security related expenditure (SRE) scheme of the central government.
Of the 78 dead, the highest number of cases came from Malkangiri followed by 15 in Koraput district and 10 in Rayagada district, he said.
Patnaik said the state had no proposal under consideration for establishment of special jail for maoist prisoners.
