Police arrest alleged ‘militant’

Police have arrested one of the “militants” who allegedly vandalized Mayor Dean Fortin’s house and car and sent a threatening email.

Cops swarmed a Victoria basement suite early Wednesday and arrested a man, 37, Const. Mike Massine said Wednesday.

Police have accused the man of sending an email claiming responsi -bility for spray-painting Fortin’s home and smashing his car window on Nov. 5. In the email, the self-described militants said: “You wanna keep kicking the s– out of us, so we’ re gonna fight back and f– you up.”

The writer expressed outrage at Fortin’s treatment of the homeless and removal of 72 shelter beds.

Cops arrested the man based on evidence seized following a raid Nov. 5 on an anarchist bookstore, Massine said. The man faces charges of mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats.
