Extremist killed in ‘shootout’

Khulna, Nov 7 (bdnews24.com)—Member of an outlawed extremist group has been killed in a ‘shootout’ with the police in Khulna.

The deceased has been identified as Matilal Shikder, a member of outlawed New Biplobi Communist Party, the police said.

The incident occurred at the early hours of Sunday.

Dumuria police chief Mohammad Abdul Aziz told bdnews24.com that the party’s regional leader Shikder and his assistants were holding a meeting at Khoriar Bil under Gutudia union of the district’s Dumuria Upazila.

When a police squad on a tip-off raided the area, the members of the party fired at the police. The police retaliated. At one stage the party members except for Shikder made an escape.

Critically injured, Shikder was sent to Dumuria Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital Morgue on Sunday morning for the autopsy.

Shikder has several cases including three murder cases against him.
