Anti riot police deployed to quell violence in Jinja

Anti riot police is still heavily deployed to quell violence triggered by a students’ strike at the Jinja Vocational Training Institution.

The students are protesting poor diet and reduction in the period for industrial training from 3 to one and a half months.

The students are now demanding that the 360,000 shillings paid for industrial training also be cut to 180,000 shillings.

They also want the principal Alexander Mugisha be transferred for alleged failure to address their concerns.

The Jinja District Police Commander Jonathan Musinguzi has intervened and promised to discuss the matter with the institution’s management to try and map out the way forward.
