Man on trial in Germany for role in far-left Turkish terror group

Dusseldorf – An alleged member of the radical Turkish left- wing DHKPC organization went on trial in Germany on Thursday.

The 36-year-old is suspected of taking part in two failed arson attacks on Turkish banks in Germany, in 1995.

He is accused of membership in a terrorist organization, attempted arson as well as charges relating to his involvement in a unit tasked with killing defectors. He is also suspected of fundraising for the DHKP-C.

The Dusseldorf court has conducted three previous trials against members of DHKPC, a radical Marxist-Leninist group that has mounted bomb attacks and killed people in Turkey, in pursuit of its goal of overthrowing Turkey’s government.
