Kotido S.S closed over strike

31st October, 2010

A total of 27 students from Kotido Secondary School were detained at Kotido Police following a strike that left windows of a five-classroom block and a power generator destroyed.

The strike began on Monday with students refusing to attend classes and demanding a balanced diet.

The North Karamoja Police commander, Thomson Ogole, on Wednesday said the students also beat the head teacher, Peter Opure, into comma, adding that the school was forced to close on Wednesday.

The Kotido resident district commissioner, Rex Achilla, condemned the action, saying the suspects would be punished to serve as a lesson to fellow students.

He urged the Police to speed up investigations.
