Turkish environmentalists throw eggs at power plant company

October 24,

Members of an environmental group in Hatay threw eggs Sunday at representatives of an energy company looking to construct a new power plant in the Mediterranean province, Anatolia news agency reported.

The AK Energy Company organized the meeting in a bid to inform locals about its plans to construct a combined natural gas cycle power plant in the district of Erzin on the Burnaz coast.

According to a report, the meeting was canceled due to a lack of participants. While representatives were leaving the building, the activists attempted to throw eggs at them.

Environmentalists had gathered in front of the meeting location to protest the power plant, vowing that they would fight to prevent its construction.

Police took measures and the company’s representatives were able to leave the scene of the incident unscathed.

There were no reports of any injuries or detentions.
