Following the vandalism of over 27 Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s (PHCN) sub-stations in Benin City, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has called for stakeholders’ concerted efforts to check the menace.
The BEDC-PHCN, which particularly spoke of its desire to partner with security agencies and community leaders in the zone comprising Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo states, said such partnership was necessary in curbing vandalism and theft of PHCN property with a view to ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
The principal manager, Public Affairs of the BEDC-PHCN, Mrs Grace Nwobodo, on Thursday, in Benin City, pointed out that the problem of vandalism of PHCN facilities in the zone, which had over 6,000 sub-stations, had assumed an alarming proportion.
According to her, given the widespread of PHCN facilities across the Benin zone and the enormity of the problem of vandalism, it had become imperative to alert the public and all relevant stakeholders, including leaders of communities where the facilities were located, security agencies, as well as the media to the prevailing circumstances in which the company was at present operating.
