Intruders wreck new police station

A new police station in south London was broken into by vandals who caused £100,000 of damage.

The station, still under construction and only days from opening as a base for Thamesmead East safer neighbourhoods policing team, was targeted in the early hours on Saturday.

Six people aged 16 to 27 were held on suspicion of arson after a fire was lit inside the building.

The station was being built as a base for Thamesmead East Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team. A Met spokesman said they have been conducting extra patrols to reassure residents.
