Gunman kills rightwing party worker

October 19
A gunman killed a party worker and said he wanted to murder Poland’s rightwing opposition leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, in a sign of the growing brutality of the country’s politics.

The 62-year-old man, who also badly injured another party employee, said he hated Mr Kaczynski, Poland’s most controversial politician, and his Law and Justice (PiS) party. “I’m against PiS and I wanted to murder him,” he yelled as he was bundled into a police car on Tuesday in the central Polish city of Lodz.
