AP Interview: Serb cops pledge crackdown on right

BELGRADE, Serbia — Serbia’s police chief says the state will crack down on far-right groups that are trying to destabilize the government.

Ivica Dacic told The Associated Press on Wednesday that anti-gay rioters and the fans who disrupted a football match against Italy belong to the same extremist groups.

More than 150 people were hurt on Sunday in downtown Belgrade in running battles with police as thousands of far-right demonstrators tried to disrupt a pride march by hurling Molotov cocktails and stun grenades at police.

An Italy-Serbia European championship qualifier game was abandoned on Tuesday in Italy when Serbia fans rioted on the stands.
